RISING AND PENETRATING DAMP

Rising damp is due to external ground water being drawn up through the masonry by capillary action and its presence is often visible with a darkening 'tide mark' and found at the base of the walls accompanied with hygroscopic salts from the groundwater. In 1875 damp proof courses were made mandatory for new constructions. There are a variety of reasons for the occurrence of rising dampness such as; bridging of original DPC levels, higher ground levels, incorrect installation, wrong materials used, failure of certain DPC's. A damp proof course is a water barrier installed usually combined with the correct waterproof replastering to stop reoccurrence.

Penetrating dampness can be caused for numerous reasons such as, inadequate maintenance and repairs, deterioration of building materials, weak points in design, damage. This can cause deterioration in internal decorations and potentially lead to plaster fungus

CONDENSATION CONTROL

Over the years, condensation has been on the rise for being the most common form of unwanted dampness in buildings due to the increase of buildings being insulated and air tight and with seasons and ways of life changing in the UK affecting the humidity levels. Condensation is noticeably apparent on windows due the substrate being non porous, however, this has now largely become a problem for internal plastering as mould feeds off the free sugars in the plaster. Our team are highly educated and experienced within this field and a variety of condensation control measures can be recommended and implemented depending on contributing factors for each individual property.

WATERPROOF REPLASTERING

Our skilled plasters with years of experience in the trade will ensure high quality artistry results at a competitive price. The importance of using the correct replastering specification is essential when working in conjunction with other works to eradicated the type of dampness being experienced.
